The level of carbon dioxide has reached levels never seen in the last million years.
The level of carbon dioxide in the earth's atmosphere is at the level of the Pliocene, about three million years ago. In that distant epoch Antarctica was green, covered with trees, the planet had a higher temperature of 3-4 degrees and the sea level was higher by about twenty meters. With the recordings of 410 particles per million, just detected by experts, the world is experiencing a dive into the past, according to experts from the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. At this rate the Antarctic continent will begin to turn green again, with inevitable repercussions on the global ecosystem. The increase in temperatures began in 1750, since the industrial revolution, starting from about 280 particles per million. In 1958, when the measurements started, instead, the level was 315. In 2013 we exceeded the bar of 400, with the average temperature of the planet having increased by one degree, while in 2040 the world will reach the record level of 450 for 2040.
As a result the temperatures are two degrees higher than in the era before the industrial revolution. In unchanged conditions of greenhouse gas emissions the temperature increase will be 3 degrees, with the sea level higher than half a meter. The rate of greenhouse gas accumulation is more than a hundred times faster than at the end of the last ice age. In short, the scenarios that open up for our planet are unpredictable and completely new to man.
