Cancer does not get sick either by chance or by bad luck. This aims to show an Italian study that the causes of the disease of the century have to be sought in the environmental factors that produce predictable genetic alternatives.
Research is part of wider scientific research, on the role of what is considered as 'bad luck' in the onset of tumors. Researchers led by Piergiusse Pelicci, a professor at the University of Milan, found that one of the most common and most important genetic changes for cancer development, "chromosomal translocation", does not happen by chance in the genome but is predictable and provoked by outside the cell.
What causes these changes?
Two are currently the currents of thought on this issue, says Pelicci: One relates to chance and the other to the surrounding environment and lifestyle.
The Italian study calls for this second. Its writers explain that genetic activity, controls from specific signals, from the environment where our cells are, which is influenced by the behavior of our environment.
